Celebrant Jane officiates weddings and funerals throughout Christchurch and its surrounds, but is happy to travel.

Looking for an experienced, fun, but also super professional celebrant? Then Jane’s your person. Based in North Canterbury, Jane cares about the people she works with and she cares about getting it right. If you want fun, she does fun. If you want elegant, she delivers. From years of theatre and travel, Jane can fit in anywhere… with a degree in English, she can write anything… VCANZ status means Jane can also officiate Registry Ceremonies. Her website has loads of information about the who, what, where and how of all that she does.

Tell us about yourself? I’ve been a celebrant for years and a member of CANZ from the start. I present workshops for celebrants and I have a very cool job with The Celebrants Training College. All that learning and networking keeps me fresh and current, and I’ve made some terrific friends along the way. A few magazine articles have been written over the years and I am the current face for the ‘Take the Time to Talk’ campaign on the funeral side of things. Having written hundreds of varied ceremonies over the years I can confidently say that I’m a celebrant for ALL occasions. When I’m not being a celebrant I’m a wife, mum, sister, friend, actor, singer and teacher. Yep, you read right. I’ve got three jobs. I also work three days a week for the Southern Health School, helping teenagers engage in education while they recover from a significant health condition. It’s challenging, but a complete contrast to celebrant work. It helps to keep straight my priorities in life and makes me very, very grateful for the life I have and the good health I enjoy. I probably learn more from the students than they do from me!

Tell us about your style? My style is your style. I’m a chameleon of occasion; an expert at reading the room. That’s my superpower.

Best part of any ceremony for you? That moment of transition – the vows, the committal, the naming of a baby… when time stands still for a second or two.

Favourite things? I have a passion for theatre, travel and anything to do with the beach. I’ve got back into performing now that my children are teenagers, but travel is a bit trickier because raising kids is so expensive (pandemics notwithstanding)! However, I do enjoy exploring my own backyard. It’s a milestone birthday for me this year, so my husband asked me what I wanted to do. “Go somewhere in New Zealand I’ve never been,” I said. So, we’re off to Invercargill! I love spending time with my family and friends – chatting, going for a run, out to see a show, coffee, wine, walking my dog… I love a good book or a great film. And in winter, I love my electric blanket. So much love!
